Three-time Olympian and Magnificent Seven gold medalist Dominique Dawes sits down with Greg Olsen for one of the most honest conversations we’ve had on Youth Inc.:

Dawes reflects on her journey through elite gymnastics, opening up about the emotional and physical toll of the sport and the intense coaching culture that defined her career. Now a mother of four, she shares how those experiences shaped the way she thinks about youth sports today and why she’s determined to create something different for the next generation.

That mission led her to launch the Dominique Dawes Academy, where the focus isn’t on producing Olympians but on developing confident, healthy kids. Her goal is to prioritize balance, well-being, and the overall growth of young athletes rather than chasing perfection at all costs.

Dawes also discusses the pressure she felt representing her race as one of the first Black women in Olympic gymnastics. She wasn't only competing for herself, but an entire community watching and seeing themselves represented.

In one powerful moment, Dawes recalls competing under immense pressure and getting back up after a crushing fall, an experience that shaped her understanding of resilience.

In a conversation that touches on identity, resilience, and the future of youth sports, Dawes offers a powerful reminder: the ultimate goal isn’t just creating champions in competition, it’s helping young athletes grow into champions in life.
